Dallas Fence Companies: Key Takeaways

HOMR reviewed the 520 fence companies in Dallas TX on their residential fence installation and repair services. We gave extra preference to fence installers who work with multiple materials, offer free quotes and extended warranties.

We ranked Texas State Fence as our best overall fence installer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for their stellar 10-year warranty and lightning fast quotes.  HOMR's research team selected Duncan’s Services as DFW's best for fence and automatic gate system installation.

Here's what we'll cover in this guide to hiring a fence company in Dallas:

  • The average DFW fence pro charges 30% more than the rest of Texas — new fence demand and labor costs drive prices higher than other Texas cities.
  • Maximize your budget and select fence contractors with value-add services. Fast installations, pre-stained boards (especially cedar fence) and old fence removal all help you save money.
  • Eliminate corner-cutters! Look for fence companies that pull permits to avoid property line disputes. A quality fence company will mark off irrigation lines and contact the utility company for you.
  • New fences in Dallas cost anywhere from $65 - $105/ linear foot. Use our fence cost calculator tool to budget for the job before you call a contractor.

If you need a fence contractor right now, just reach out, and we'll connect you with one of our featured partners!

Our Criteria

❌ Deal Breakers

No Permits

Fences involve property lines - permits help prevent neighborly disputes and big lawsuits. Don't put in a fence without one.

Low Quality Installs

We avoided companies that had multiple complaints about their fence build quality - including posts leaning, stain issues, and bad gate alignment.

✅ The Bare Minimum

Same Price Guarantee

Charging customers the same cost per linear foot regardless of the neighborhood they lived in was a requirement of our top providers.

Fast Installs

Good companies book up fast - we like that both of our providers had multiple crews so they could always start and finish jobs fast.

🔥 Above And Beyond

Motorized Gate Install and Repair

Many homeowners have gates - they're an expensive part of replacing your fence, and some companies don't work with them.

Pre-Stained Boards

Staining on-site costs more and doesn't cover 100% of the fence. Pre-stained boards get homeowners longevity and cost savings.

The Data & Research: Why You Should Trust Us

HOMR managed 40+ fence jobs and compared over 89 fence job quotes over the last 2 years. We also helped our members cross-compare these fencing estimates line by line to determine the best service provider for their homes.

Nearly all of HOMR’s employees live and work in Dallas. The increased cost and demand for good residential fences doesn’t just affect us at the office — we’re seeing prices go up for fence repairs at our own homes.

We combined our service data with national cost averages: the average DFW fence replacement or installation project costs 30% more than the rest of Texas. This is due to 2 major factors:

  • Cost of Labor. The cost of labor is higher in Dallas-Fort Worth than any other Texas city.
  • Increased Demand. Demand for perimeter fences — particularly privacy fences — in the Dallas area has gone up every year for the last decade.

We used this data as the foundation for our selection criteria which we outline below.

‍How much will it cost to build that perimeter or privacy fence? Use our Fence Cost Calculator — enter your linear feet, fence height and style, wood type, stain preference, even add a top cap!

How We Selected the Best Dallas Fence Company

A cedar fence in a heavily wooded Dallas backyard being built - the fence frame and posts have been set. A delivery of fence pickets has been staged with stacks of 20-30 pickets leaning on the fence

There are over 520 Dallas fence installation and repair companies (Houzz). We narrowed them down to our 2 HOMR featured providers with 4 main elimination points.

We created a standard fencing pricing list based off of our quote database — based on the materials in an average fence line:

  • 150 linear ft of western red cedar
  • Board-on-board privacy fence
  • 8 ft. galvanized steel fence posts
  • 1 non-motorized gate

Fence providers that came in more than 25% above the standard price range were eliminated. We also eliminated any DFW fence contractor that couldn’t provide a current license or furnish proof of insurance. While you don’t need a permit to work on Dallas fences, we still strongly prefer the reliability and skill set that a licensed contractor provides.

Next, we looked for fence companies with extended workmanship warranties. We like service providers who stand behind the quality of their work. It indicates a higher standard of craftsmanship, and also saves you money if issues like faulty materials or warped wood arise down the road.

HOMR researched the remaining contenders for BBB accreditation and customer reviews. We prefer providers who are registered with the Better Business Bureau and actively respond to reviews from previous customers.

Finally, we researched the working relationships between Dallas fence companies, their material providers and any scrap yards or junk yards they work with. A contractor that has good relationships with other industry professionals usually has good relationships with their clients. It’s a signal of trust, good nature, and transparent communication.

Above and Beyond

The top 2 types of Better Business Bureau complaints against Dallas fence contractors involved work delays and poor estimates. Some customers experienced delays of 3-4 weeks on fence installation projects, while one unlucky customer was left with a pile of damaged poles and concrete in their yard!

Save yourself from these Dallas fence company complaints — establish a clear timeline before your project begins with your contractor. If your project involves fence repair, insist all damaged materials be hauled away. Ask your fence company to strictly abide by these terms, and provide a clear point of communication for all issues and disputes. It's a great sign your contractor is willing to go above and beyond for you.

Honorable Mentions

The following Dallas fence repair and installation companies make our list of honorable mentions — they didn’t quite top our list, but we'd like to spotlight their positive attributes and explain why we didn't choose them.

Please note: HOMR’s research team is constantly updating its database, and our rankings change over time. Check back to see if our recommended companies change!

🥈 Ambassador Fence Company: We rated Ambassador as our “best of the rest” Dallas fence company. Their customer service over the phone was exceptional. Customer reviews note their fast quotes and scheduling, responsiveness, and excellent daily clean-up. They've been BBB accredited since 2018.

King of Kings Fence: King of Kings Fence is open 7 days a week and is noted for consistent pricing and good finished products. It's a bit difficult to parse out their online presence, as their name changes from site to site (sometimes King of Kings Fence, K O K Fence, or Rey De Reyes Landscaping).

Budget Fence N Deck: A popular combo fence and deck company that competes primarily on price. They also offer patio covers, wood decks, wood and vinyl fence staining. Currently, Budget Fence n Deck is open 5 days a week — we ranked other providers open 6-7 days a week higher.

Allied Fence Company of Dallas: Allied has served DFW homeowners and commercial fence projects since 1954. They offer chain link fence, ornamental iron fence and wood fence solutions. We chose to focus on DFW fence pros that were more purely residential in these rankings.

Dallas Fence Repair Cost by Material Type

Table: Dallas Fence Repair Cost by Material Type

Material Unit Cost
Wood linear ft $20
Chain Link linear ft $30
Wrought Iron linear ft $40

These statistics from Texas State Fence show that material type doesn’t change the cost of fence repair by much. The average cost to repair a chain link fence versus a wrought iron fence only differs by $40.

So why is it generally more expensive to install a wood fence than a chain link fence, even though wood is cheaper per linear foot? In Dallas Fort Worth, the cost of labor is more important than materials.

Current Cost of Dallas Fence Repair Labor

Since most fence contractors bill for services by the hour, the real driver of fence repair cost is labor — not materials. How much of your fence needs to be repaired or replaced? How much material needs to be taken down and hauled away?

Here are some important stats to know about the current cost of Dallas fence repair work:

  • The average cost to install a new Dallas fence is $75-105 per linear foot. This cost includes material and labor. Chain link fences are lower than this estimate (~$40 per linear foot).
  • The average cost to repair a Dallas fence is $18-50 per square foot depending on materials. Add costs for taller fences as they'll need more labor and dispose of more material.
  • The average total cost to install a new Dallas fence is $12,000-$20,000.
  • The average total cost to repair a Dallas fence is $475-1600.

Conclusion

Whether you crave true Texas backyard living or just a little added privacy, fence repair and new fence installation are hot commodities in Dallas.

  • The cost of your Dallas fence project is based more on labor than materials — get the best bang for your buck and pick a fence company that offers a warranty on their work.
  • Demand for privacy fences and security fences is only going up in DFW. Make sure to demand the same level of security from your contractor, in the form of upfront pricing and a clear timeline.
  • Looking for wood fence installation? Choose a board on board cedar fence for gorgeous visual appeal, but be prepared to spend more than you would on pressure treated pine.
  • Use an aluminum fence or chain link fence if you're more concerned with security than with aesthetics.

We trust Texas State Fence and Duncan’s Services to deliver those things on top of quality craftsmanship — it’s the same high standard of excellence we demand of every HOMR featured partner.
