30% of your home's heat loss and AC air leaks happen through old, poorly installed windows — hiring the right Dallas window replacement company saves you 15% (or more) every year on home heating and AC bills.

HOMR selected RDS Door & Windows as the top Dallas window replacement, repair and installation company. We value their excellent product knowledge, extended 2-year labor warranty, and status as a 3rd generation family-owned Dallas window contractor.

Here’s what we'll cover in this buying guide to Dallas window companies:

  • HOMR managed over 40 residential Dallas window jobs last year. We used service data and member feedback to inform this buying guide.
  • We prefer Dallas window contractors over “big box” chains for their local expertise, community ties and a greater likelihood to offer labor warranties. Look for providers with excellent product knowledge regarding energy efficient windows.
  • The average whole-home Dallas vinyl window replacement costs $19,630, and improves home value by $13,000-$14,000. Dallas window replacement and installation costs are 2-3% lower than the national average due to lesser window insulation needs than colder climate zones.
  • The average Dallas window repair costs between $250-$450 per window. Sliding windows and skylights are among the most expensive due to complex installation and a wider variety of window sizes.

The Data & Research: Why You Should Trust Us

A white window with plants on windowsill, a Dallas window replacement

HOMR researched, scheduled and oversaw over 40 Dallas residential window service jobs in the last 12 months. These projects included the following:

  • 14 new residential window installations
  • 12 residential window repair and window replacement jobs
  • 25 residential window cleaning appointments

These window jobs helped create HOMR’s internal database of Dallas-Fort Worth prices, service trends and overall project popularity.

We oversaw and analyzed the performance of each window installer and window repair service we hired for HOMR members. We then asked our members for direct feedback on the service providers and their work.

How We Chose the Top Dallas Window Company

Dallas man holding painted window, who to hire for Dallas window replacement

HOMR began its selection process by eliminating “big box” and national window supply stores. We prefer to provide Dallas homeowners with contractors that

Whether you’re looking for window installation, window repair, or window replacement, choose a service provider that specializes in residential window services. Not only will they have a strong working relationship with residential window suppliers, they'll know how to respectfully work in and around your home.

As Dallas weather becomes more extreme, energy efficient windows reduce heat loss and home air leaks by up to 30%. We rate window installers and cleaners well if they offer eco-friendly products that exceed the efficiency ratings set forth by the Department of Energy.

HOMR recommends DFW window companies that offer workmanship warranties on their labor. It’s far easier to trust a window installation if the contractor offers an extended warranty on the project — not just the materials.

Finally, we eliminated any window companies who seemed “too tied” to one particular brand of products or materials. Dallas homeowners need a window contractor who has excellent working relationships with multiple suppliers and manufacturers.

Our Top Dallas Window Replacement Company

HOMR selected RDS Door and Windows as the best choice for window replacement in Dallas. Its owner, Shannon Burke, is the 3rd generation of her family to own and operate RDS.

🏆 RDS Door & Windows: Best Dallas Window Installation & Replacement

Why We Like Them: RDS is a member of the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce and has extremely strong community ties. Formed in 1996, it’s now a third generation family business based in Garland serving Dallas, Rowell, Richardson and most other Dallas suburbs.

RDS’ owner, Shannon Burke, offers a 2-year extended workmanship warranty on all labor. We also like her commitment to higher quality window materials and products.

“I don't install builder grade windows. They last 3-5 years and the savings isn't worth the quality difference,” Shannon told HOMR. “Our customers stay our customers forever — they’re part of my community.”

Non-Negotiables: It’s easy to get a live RDS representative on the phone — often, you’ll get the owner herself. Shannon also believes in a low-pressure sales environment where homeowners can request multiple home walkthroughs prior to making a decision.

“It’s a large purchase. I don’t see how people can walk into your home, make a 90 minute pitch and expect you to sign on the dotted line,” Shannon says. “That’s not how I work. I’ll bring our samples out 2, 3 times if it helps someone make a decision.”

Honorable Mentions

The following Dallas window companies make our list of honorable mentions — they didn’t quite top our list, but we'd like to spotlight their positive attributes (and reasons why we didn't select them).

Please note: HOMR’s research team is constantly updating its database, and our rankings change over time. Check back to see if our recommended companies change!

Window Source of DFW: Window Source of DFW is our “runner up” window company. HOMR likes their customer service reputation, variety of window styles and types, and reliable appointment keeping.

Foster Exteriors Window Company: HOMR is impressed with Foster Exteriors’ reputation, service record and online reviews. We weren’t able to reach a live service representative in several phone call attempts.

Thermal Windows: We like that Thermal Windows manufactures and installs thermal, aluminum and vinyl windows. We couldn’t find indication of several window styles listed on their website, including skylights.

Window World of Dallas-Fort Worth: Few, if any, window companies can beat Window World on price. However, they only deal in vinyl windows and offer a limited product warranty — as a national brand, they don’t have specific Dallas experience.

Current Cost of Dallas Window Replacement, Installation and Repair

Dallas window contractor installing a new window in a DFW home

The average cost to replace, install and repair windows in Dallas is 3-5% lower than the national average. This is primarily due to weather — homes in colder climates require windows with more insulation, which drives installation and material costs up.

Table: Current Cost of Dallas Residential Window Replacement By Window Type (per window)

Type of Window Low End Replacement Cost High End Replacement Cost
Single Hung Windows $225 $600
Transom Windows $275 $700
Sliding Windows $300 $1,500
Double Hung Windows $375 $975
Awning Windows $400 $1,050
Casement Windows $625 $1,200
Skylights $750 $2,300
Bay Windows $1,600 $3,800

The average cost of Dallas replacement windows is between $425 and $1,250 per window, including labor.

Note the wide price range of replacement sliding windows — window sizes greatly affect the overall cost of sliding windows.

Installing new windows in Dallas increases the average home price by $13,000-$14,000. This means DFW homeowners can recoup up to 66% of the installation cost.

Table: Current Cost of Dallas Window Replacement By Material Type (per window)

Window Material Low End Replacement Cost High End Replacement Cost
Aluminum $200 $750
Vinyl $275 $850
Composite $575 $1,500
Wood $700 $1,500
Fiberglass $700 $1,600

The average cost to replace vinyl windows in a full Dallas home is $19,630. The average cost to replace wood windows in similar home sizes is $24,015. Both of these costs currently are 2-3% less than the national average, according to Remodeling's 2023 Cost vs. Value Report.

Fiberglass windows are less frequently installed due to their high-end cost, but they do offer better overall energy efficiency than other window materials.

We think vinyl windows are the best option for most Dallas homeowners. See how HOMR ranks 5 popular window materials for durability, cost and overall energy efficiency.

Table: Current Cost of Dallas Window Repair by Window Type (Per Window)

Type of Window Low End Repair Cost High End Repair Cost
Transom Windows $80 $250
Single Hung Windows $150 $300
Awning Windows $150 $325
Casement Windows $175 $375
Double Hung Windows $250 $450
Sliding Windows $250 $500
Skylights $300 $500

The average cost of Dallas window repairs is $250 to $450 per window. Transom and single hung windows are among the least expensive to repair, while complex repairs to sliding windows and skylights can cost over $500 per window.

It’s significantly cheaper to repair windows than to replace them — if your home windows are in decent shape, consider Dallas window repair as a better financial option.

Conclusion

Hire quality DFW window replacement and installation companies like RDS Door & Windows to get top-quality windows in your home, and the project helps pay for itself in 3 ways:
